Things Peaople Have Said

My love of cycling started at the Herne Hill Velodrome. It gives young people the opportunity to experience a whole new sport and activity. What's more it's part of England's racing history and it generates our country's future winners. It's appeal goes beyond professionals like me - losing it would rob the next generation of experiencing the sport and just the love of cycling. Londoners need to fight to keep this facility.

Bradley Wiggins, Olympic Gold Medalist

Bradley Wiggins Cycling As a young athlete, I was lucky that my father coupled his parental duties with turning himself into my technically accomplished coach. He looked after my training, but his real passion was cycling and as a young man he competed and trained at the Herne Hill Velodrome. It has a proud cycling history and has been a base to many young cyclists. Having recently tasted the excitement of track cycling at the Manchester Velodrome, I know the benefits and excitement that a track can bring. I hope all interested parties will work together to find a solution for this community cycling facility to continue its tradition in South London

Lord Coe

It beggars belief that the Herne Hill Velodrome is under threat. This is an invaluable sports facility for all of London and our only working Velodrome at the moment. Just when everyone is becoming cycling crazy we're letting the track close. Come on everyone get involved and give a damn.

James Nesbitt, Actor and local resident

The Herne Hill Velodrome is still a magnificent track and full of wonderful memories for me and the whole country from the 1948 Olympics. I cannot believe that something so historical and still important today could be threatened. So many of the tracks in London from my days have gone, leaving just Herne Hill. I went to the Velodrome recently and saw some of the youth members using it. It was an inspiration to hear their enthusiasm and it would be such a shame if it was lost forever.

Tommy Godwin, 1948 Olympic Medalist

For the first time in many years there is a real possibility of the Herne Hill Velodrome being modernised and fit for the thousands of users. I am 100% behind this campaign and urge everyone who can be part of the solution in the refurbishment of the Velodrome to play their part.

Tessa Jowell, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood

I know the Velodrome and I think it's a thing of beauty and I don't think we realise how lucky we are to have one. Good luck with the campaign, which I am happy to support.

Jenny Eclair, Comedian and local resident

I am fully behind the efforts to secure the future of the Herne Hill Velodrome. This new campaign is taking a really sensible approach. It is not simply about funding – it is about all the key partners trusting each other and working together to provide a long-term solution. The Velodrome is a fantastic community facility that must not be lost and I am encouraged by the progress that is now being made.

Kate Hoey, The Mayor's Commissioner for Sport

Kate Hoey The Councillors are fully supportive of the campaign and we will support and advise the group with the development of the Site.

Annie Shepperd, Chief Executive, Southwark Council

The Trustees of The Dulwich Estate welcome and support this campaign in its objectives to ensure that cycling can continue at Herne Hill Velodrome. The Trustees welcome support from a community enterprise, working in partnership with CF, in formulating a plan to help guarantee the sustainability of cycling at Herne Hill in the long term.
